Date: 03-07-2014, Author: Faye Murphy, Categories: Celeb Style
Style on Screen were lucky enough to grab a quick chat with Nick Ede, AKA the Simon Cowell of the fashion world!!! Nick is known for his expertise in PR, fashion and celebs so naturally, Style on Screen were thrilled to interview him! See what he had to say!…
Have you always known you wanted to work in fashion and PR? How did you get into it? I’ve always loved both fashion and PR – I started early when I went to Glasgow School of art and studied fine art! I was more interested in fashion and textiles but I also wanted to communicate so I ended up leaving and going to Drama College. All my friends were studying fashion so I got my fix there. When I was 30 I had been working in the entertainment world but in marketing and sales and I decided to give it all up and learn about TV – so I went to a company called shine who made big shows like Masterchef and Project Catwalk. I was a runner and over six months I worked my way into production! One day I was asked to leave! No more work for me so as I was packing my bags I heard a cheer and a new show had been commissioned! It was a daily celebrity show hosted by the astrologer Russell Grant! I was called into Elizabeth Murdoch’s office and asked if I wanted to work on the show but not as an assistant but as his co host! I had landed my dream job in front of the camera.. I did all the red carpet interviews and fashion segments and met everyone and kept in touch with them all. When that finished I decided I would set up a business so I asked my neighbour at the time Patsy Palmer if I could represent her fake tan brand and Edencancan was born!
Who’s your favorite celeb you’ve worked with? I have been lucky enough to work with some of the biggest names in the world and they are now friends! Eva Longoria is one of the most inspiring women I know, kind, funny and intelligent! I work with her in an ambassadorial role for the Global Gift Gala and we work hard on raising awareness for her various charities.. Another star is Kelly Osbourne I worked with her when I was a judge on Project Catwalk she was hosting and we hit it off immediately we were the youngest on set so had lots of fun! I feel like her older brother and I have a very close friendship! And I have so much pride for her watching her become such an amazing young woman! And finally Mel B we met playing tennis in Miami and the rest is ‘scary’ history! I simply adore her!
What was your inspiration to launch Style for Stroke? My mother passed away when I was 23 from a stroke and it was the worst time I could ever imagine! And over the years I have wanted to create a standalone initiative that would engage young and old alike! I wanted to create a product that was well made, sexy, cool and ultimately wearable and would be worn out! I want style for stroke to be known worldwide and become as big as other charity initiatives!
Where did the idea come from for the Famous Last Words tees? I really liked the idea of how you want to be remembered! And famous last words just came to me….. It’s a repeatable format too so every year we will have other celebrities giving their famous last words and make the campaign relevant and ultra cool – I hope..
Who would you like most to design a tee? I’d love Victoria beckham, Mariah carey and Madonna to design, and boys… mmmm i’d like Daniel Craig, Tom Cruise and Justin Timberlake!
How important is social media’s role within fashion? Social media is so important! We launched this campaign with celebrity selfies posted on twitter and Instagram and then It has snowballed, and I think that this is the best way to launch something like this! Get to the grassroots, fans and build up interest! And now we are being featured in the glossy weeklies and the evening standard!
