The EE British Academy Film Awards Red Carpet Review
Date: 17-02-2014, Author: Katie Smith, Categories: Celeb Style
WE LOVE AWARDS SEASON! We had a great night catching up with all the fashion straight from the red carpet at Sunday’s BAFTAs. There was brilliant chatter on twitter surrounding our commentary, with many of you tweeting in with your own verdicts – which we LOVED!! (We’ll be doing more of that!)
It was also a fantastic night for British designers; Mulberry, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Victoria Beckham, to name a few, all graced the carpet at the Royal Opera House. And we didn’t spot a complete disaster either! Have the BAFTAs won the battle of the red carpets?! Or is it too soon to tell? It’s looking good though… read on to see our best dressed ladies (and man…)!
BACK TO BLACK
Best Actress nominees Cate Blanchett and Amy Adams both rocked up in chic black ensembles from Alexander McQueen and Victoria Beckham, respectively.
Who wore it best? It was a very close battle but you voted Amy best in black; she nudged just ahead of Aussie Cate in our twitter poll! But hey, Cate won the BAFTA so it all works out, doesn’t it?! You can channel Amy’s sleek vampy BAFTA look in this gorgeous Missguided number – complete with high neck and caped front! http://bit.ly/1dIoF4k We absolutely LOVE this look!
We also received a few tweets in favour of Uma Thurman, who geniusly paired her sleek black Versace gown with a sharp blazer for the ceremony. Simplicity is the key, and Uma looked flawless!
Colour blocking came in thick and fast from singer Lily Allen and actress Gillian Anderson. Gillian went for a subtle blue tonal vintage Balmain gown while Lily opted for something a little less conventional… She absolutely ROCKED the red carpet in Vivienne Westwood’s pink and orange creation. It was a love or hate piece but you all LOVED it, and so did we! More of this please, Lils!
Taking the helm for the solid block colour team was beauty vlogger Tanya Burr accompanied by Lupita Nyong’o and bang-on-trend Naomie Harris.
Tanya (whose dress was massively popular on the carpet with twitter… she even retweeted us!) wears Coast’s Chartreuse Hedda Maxi gown… HELLO HIGH STREET! Get your hands on Tanya’s ACTUAL BAFTA dress here:http://bit.ly/1lXHeTZ
Nominee Lupita Nyong’o absolutely STUNNED as one of the first arrivals on to the carpet in a delicious emerald green Dior Couture gown. (FUN FACT: This was one of the Dior gowns we predicted for Jennifer Lawrence at the SAG Awards! Hands up if you think we should be their stylist for the Oscars?!) You voted Lupita one of the best dressed on the night, and rightly so!
Naomie Harris SIZZLED in one of this seasons HOTTEST colours… cerise pink! Her Gucci dress scored big with you fashionistas on the red carpet. Keep your eyes firmly on the high street though… From pastel pink to hot pink, the hue is going to be a HUGE trend for Spring ’14. If you’re feeling BOLD like our Miss Moneypenny, Naomie, this stunning pink gown from ASOS is perfect. http://bit.ly/1dIoXIf
There’s currently two major trends for the guys out there circulating on the red carpet right now. One of them concerns a giant hat… (we’re looking at you, Pharrell… what have you done?!) and the other is courtesy of the suave Matthew McConhaughey. Yep… velvet smoking jackets.
Tinie Tempah stood up for Britain and brought it home in this suave blue velvet Burberry jacket. We love this trend so much! You can channel Tinie and Matthew in this dashing red velvet blazer from ASOS (also available in black)http://bit.ly/1dIp9aD We’ll be expecting more of this at the Oscars!
Diane Keaton’s done it… Madonna’s done it… Tess Daly did it… but we bet you didn’t think one of the world’s most beautiful woman would rock up to an awards ceremony in a casual tuxedo as well, did you? BUT WE’RE SUPER GLAD SHE DID! Ladies and gentlemen, your BEST DRESSED of the night goes to Ms Angelina Jolie who was decked head to toe in sleek tailored Saint Laurent Paris. It’s so good to have you back on the carpet, Ange… we’ve missed you!
Grab Angelina’s flawless casual style here from ASOS – pair it with a white blouse, roll up those sleeves and you’re good to go: http://bit.ly/1dIphH0 (Jacket) & http://bit.ly/1dIpr10 (Trousers)
We can’t wait for the next carpet! Will you be joining us Wednesday 18th Feb for the BRITs? We hope so!
